What is Leap?

Leap is an early intervention enrichment and acceleration program designed for kindergarten and first grade students.  All students in kindergarten and first grade qualify for daily language arts instruction in the LEAP Lab.

frog2003.gif (2354 bytes)LEAP is based on the premise that early intervention is the key to ensuring optimal success in reading. frog2003.gif (2354 bytes)LEAP combines research-based Reading Recovery Strategies with the Cunningham Four Blocks instructional model.
frog2003.gif (2354 bytes)LEAP activities are designed to meet the needs of students who are weak in beginning reading and writing and also students who read and/or write at or above grade level. frog2003.gif (2354 bytes)In the LEAP Lab, students are actively engaged in the reading/writing process during the daily lesson.  Each week, all students read a new book, generate writing to reflect comprehension of the book, and generate words and practice writing high frequencey words.  They are taught strategies that good readers use.
