From the 5^th Grade…

Reading-After reading an approved book students can complete a fiction or nonfiction sheet and receive a “Book It” coupon for a free one topping personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut.

 Spelling/Vocabulary-Weekly spelling tests will come from the blue vocabulary book. Students are required to complete the exercises assigned. On Friday there will be a spelling test and a vocabulary test. Students are not allowed to write in these books.

Social Studies

Our next unit of study will be on the Industrial Revolution and Immigration.

Math

Unit 2: Multiplication & Division-Students have learned the commutative, associative, and distributive properties.  Along with a division algorithm for two digits division and the divisibility rules for 3, 6, and 9.  Study Guides will go home Thursday, October 16^th.  Please do not allow your child to use a calculator. They need to learn the algorithms for multiplication and division, which is what they will have to use for the tests.

Our focus unit has been on Ecosystems. Students have created a terrarium and aquarium ecosystem. We are also studying food chains which include producers, consumers, and decomposers. There is a lot of vocabulary involved. Please help your child prepare for any tests he or she may have.
