Project Lead the Way

Project Lead The Way provides transformative learning experiences for K-12 students. PLTW creates an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empowers students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive.  The pathways in engineering and biomedical science engage students in projects and problems empowering the them to solve real-world challenges.  Global and local challenges surround us. To address these challenges and move forward, we need students who know problem-solving strategies, think critically and creatively, communicate and collaborate with others, and persevere when something does not work the first time. Project Lead The Way allows students to develops these skills – relevant to any career or role they take on.

Spartanburg School District Six is proud to offer nationally recognized Project Lead the Way courses for students beginning in Kindergarten at Roebuck Elementary School through a program called Launch.  All of our district middle schools offer a PLTW program called Gateway to Technology. In these elective courses, students learn to use a CAD software program called Autodesk Inventor to create 3D designs they can then print on 3D printers located in their classrooms. Students also explore Vex Robotics as they design and build robots that can solve specific problems.

Both Dorman Freshman Campus and Dorman High School offer PLTW courses in engineering and biomedical sciences. Rising 9th graders, high school students, and parents: please be sure to explore the 2020-2021 course guide booklet and the links below to gain valuable information about the available courses. All PLTW courses are at the Honors level.  According to SCDOE students will receive AP/Duel Credit weighting if they meet two criteria: A or B in the course and the qualifying score on the PLTW end-of-course assessment. Below is the the needed scores to qualify for AP/Duel Credit weighting.
