2022 - 2023 MIDDLE School Choice

Middle School Choice Application Grades 6th – 8th

2022-2023

In accordance with School Board Policy JBC, Spartanburg County School District Six will offer limited school choice, grades 6th -8th, for the 2022-2023 academic year based on the availability of space within specific grade levels at each middle school in the district.  You may request that your child attend a school other than his or her zoned school by completing this application and submitting it to the Office of Student Services at the address specified below. Rising 6th grade applications should be submitted no later than March 25, 2022.  If possible, parents of rising 6th graders will be notified of the status of their request prior to 6th grade orientation so that the student may attend orientation at the middle school he or she will attend. Rising 7th and 8th grade applications should be submitted no later than March 31, 2022.  All parents, regardless of their student’s grade level, will be notified of the status of their request no later than June 24, 2022. All applications will be considered in the order in which they were received.  Students who have already been approved for school choice do not have to reapply for the 2022-2023 academic year, unless the student is advancing from elementary school to middle school, and the middle school of choice is not in the assigned attendance zone.

NOTE: For the 2022-2023 school year, there is no available space for school choice at Dawkins or Fairforest Middle.

If your request for school choice is granted, your student must remain at the chosen school for the entire school year and may remain there through the final grade in the school. Please be aware that it is the responsibility of the family to provide transportation to and from the requested school outside of your student’s attendance zone. You must have your student at school on time and picked up promptly at dismissal. Students must not have excessive tardies (no more than 10 unexcused tardies) in order for the transfer to remain in effect.  Also, students are expected to maintain an acceptable academic, discipline, and attendance record (no more than 10 unexcused absences).  A principal may choose to revoke transfer privileges should a student fail to meet these expectations. It is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to establish eligibility for student participation in activities sponsored by the South Carolina High School League. In order to participate in such activities, a student must meet all SCHSL eligibility requirements. For questions about eligibility, please contact Mr. Flynn Harrell, District Six Athletic Director, at 864-342-8901.

If you agree to the above requirements and wish to make an official request that your child attend a school other than his or her zoned school, please return this application to the Office of Student Services.
