District Six Announces New Superintendent

Spartanburg District Six Announces New Superintendent

The Spartanburg School District Six Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Mr. Ken Kiser as the district’s next superintendent. Mr. Kiser will transition from his role of acting superintendent, which he accepted following the retirement of Dr. Darryl Owings in July.

Throughout Kiser’s 28 years in education, he has developed a solid reputation centered on his ability to build positive relationships and effectively lead, while creating a positive culture and climate.  He began in District Six as a teacher at Gable Middle School before moving into administration as an assistant principal at Dorman Freshman Campus and Dorman High School.  Mr. Kiser then spent six years as principal of Dawkins Middle, eight years as principal of Dorman High, and four years as deputy superintendent.

Board Chairman Mr. Lynn Harris says our board carefully considered the district’s needs and determined that Mr. Kiser was the right choice for our students, faculty, and staff.  “Mr. Kiser has faithfully and successfully served District Six for nearly three decades.  His track record has been exceptional, and he has shown that he is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children.  Mr. Kiser has a passion for education and a deep understanding of the needs of our district.  The board is confident that Mr. Kiser will continue to lead the district with the same level of excellence and commitment he has shown throughout his career.”

Mr. Kiser says he is humbled and honored to be selected to lead such an extraordinary district.  “I am truly grateful to be chosen as the next superintendent of Spartanburg District Six.  A district is only as strong as its leadership, and our board’s commitment to making solid decisions for students, faculty, and staff has always been evident.  I look forward to working alongside our amazing faculty and staff and am filled with optimism for what we can accomplish together. I am completely committed to serving our students and making sure they are prepared for their future.”

The District Six board agrees that Mr. Kiser’s experience and understanding of the faculty, staff, students, families, and community will make for a seamless transition.  Mr. Kiser says he hopes to build on the already impressive accomplishments of this district while carrying out the district’s mission and vision of putting children first. He will assume the official role beginning November 1, 2023.

Please join the board in congratulating and welcoming Mr. Ken Kiser as the superintendent of Spartanburg School District Six.
