Spartanburg County School District Six has announced that Mrs. Donna Lowe is the District Six Teacher of the Year. Now in her 24th year in education, Mrs. Lowe was chosen from a distinguished group of educators across the district. The announcement was made during the District Six Awards and Recognition Program on August 5, 2025. Reflecting on this honor, she shared, “I am so honored to represent the teachers of Spartanburg District Six. I truly feel that there is no group of people more caring, hard-working, and dedicated to the success of their students than our teachers.”
Mrs. Lowe teaches first grade at Anderson Mill Elementary School and has been part of District Six since 2008. She describes the district’s educators as champions for students who consistently go above and beyond. “To work with such fine teachers in District Six is a joy. To represent them as District Six Teacher of the Year is an absolute honor. Our school district is amazing because of the high expectations that have been instilled in our staff throughout all our schools. We work hard with love and compassion. We further our own education so that our teaching practices are enhanced.”
A graduate of Gardner-Webb University, UNC Charlotte, and USC Upstate, Mrs. Lowe is currently training to become a Literacy Specialist. She and her family have called Spartanburg home since 2008. She is married to Todd, a pastor in Spartanburg, and they have two young adult children, Chapman and Isabella. Chapman is in his last year at Clemson and Isabella is a first-year teacher in District Six. Donna and her husband also have a small craft business called The Palmetto Padre that allows them to take lots of trips to the SC coast.
She says her favorite part of teaching is forming relationships with her students and their families. “I love it when I have the opportunity to teach multiple children in a family. It makes me so happy to see my former students come to visit me and walk the halls in their elementary school before graduation from Dorman. The people. The children. Their families. That is the very best part of my career in education at Spartanburg District Six.”
